JAPANESE STEAK ROLLS   
  Ingredients :
    1 lb (500 g) flank steak, trimmed, no fat
    16 long asparagus, trimmed
    16 green onion stems
    6 tablespoons soy sauce
    1 tablespoon sesame oil
    2 teaspoons sugar

    Marinade:
    6 tablespoons rice vinegar
    Salt
    Pepper

  Preparation:

Cut flank steak into 16 strips and pound each until thin. Season with salt and pepper.
Place steak strips on a flat surface. Place 1 asparagus and one green onion stem across the short end of a strip of the meat and roll meat around vegetables. Secure with a toothpick.
Place rolls in a single layer on a shallow baking pan.

Marinade:
Prepare marinade by combining the rice vinegar, soy sauce, sesame oil and sugar and marinate for 12 minutes.
Preheat the broiler to high and broil steak rolls for 5 minutes or until tender and remove from pan Remove toothpicks from rolls and keep warm.
Place the marinade in a saucepan and bring to a boil until it thickens and becomes syrupy.
Serve steak rolls and spoon sauce over rolls.
