APPLE CAKE   
  Ingredients :
    4 oz (100 g) soft butter
    1 cup sugar
    1 cup cake flour
    3 eggs
    ½ teaspoon baking powder
    1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    1 teaspoon ground clove
    Pinch of salt
    6 cooking apples, peeled, cored and sliced thinly

    Syrup:
    1 cup sugar
    ½ cup water

  Preparation:

Whip butter with sugar until creamy. Add flour, baking powder, cinnamon, clove and salt. Mix well and add eggs, one at a time.
Carefully add apple slices, reserving some for later.
Transfer mixture to a previously greased and floured cake pan.

Arrange reserved apple slices on top. Sprinkle extra sugar on top and bake in preheated moderate oven to 350°F (180°C). When cake is almost ready, pour syrup over cake and continue baking until it is ready.

Syrup:
Place sugar and water in a saucepan. Bring to a boil and cook for 6 to 8 minutes.
