    OATMEAL COOKIES     

   Ingredients :
 
1 cup all purpose flour
cup sugar
cup brown sugar
teaspoon baking powder
teaspoon baking soda
teaspoon salt
cup shortening
1 egg
teaspoon vanilla extract
cup oats
cup chopped walnuts or pecans
Granulated sugar

   Preparation:

Combine flour, sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a bowl. Add shortening, egg and vanilla extract and mix. Add oats and nuts and combine.

Shape small balls and place over granulated sugar. Arrange cookies, leaving 3 inches (5 cm) between cookies, on an ungreased cookie sheet with sugar side up. Bake in oven at 375F (190C) for 10 minutes.

Remove from oven and cool on rack. Keep in an airtight container.
